Build reusable capabilities when reuse creates leverage.
A platform is not a technical abstraction for its own sake. I look for repeated needs, shared economics, common controls, and experiences where reuse creates measurable value.
Know when a feature becomes a platform capability
Repeated demand is a signal. So are shared workflows, shared data, and shared controls.
Choose reuse deliberately
Reuse introduces coordination and platform overhead. The economics need to work.
Design for the consumer
Developer experience, onboarding, documentation, reliability, and support are part of the platform product.
Measure platform value
Look for adoption, time saved, duplication removed, quality improved, and outcomes enabled for consuming teams.
